Ngaio: Suburb Insights & Property Market Update

Welcome to Ngaio

Ngaio is one of Wellington’s leafiest suburbs, offering a mix of character villas, mid-century homes, and modern townhouses. Popular with families and professionals, Ngaio real estate is known for its native bush setting and quick 10-minute train commute to the CBD.

Lifestyle & Community

  • Schools: Zoned for Ngaio School, Raroa Intermediate, Wellington Girls’ College, and Wellington College.

  • Amenities: Ngaio Village with cafés, a local supermarket, library, and community hall.

  • Recreation: Huntleigh Park, Cummings Park, and easy access to the Skyline Walkway. Native bush tracks are a favourite with locals and families.

  • Transport: Train from Ngaio Station to the CBD in about 10 minutes, plus regular bus services.

Ngaio is also home to the Tarikaka Street Settlement, a heritage precinct of railway houses built in the late 1920s and again in the late 1930s. These pre-cut homes were shipped down from Frankton Junction and assembled on-site for railway workers, creating one of New Zealand’s most intact examples of planned worker housing. Today the settlement adds a unique historic character to Ngaio, with many of the original homes still standing.
