Gold for Service: What That Actually Means When You Sell in Wellington

Whoop! Harcourts has just been named the 2027 Reader's Digest Quality Service Gold winner for Real Estate.

We'll be straight with you. Steve and I don't normally get too excited about awards. But this one's about service, and that's the bit we actually care about.

How these awards work

In past years, Reader's Digest has run its Quality Service Awards off a survey of Kiwis who've actually used the service. Not agents voting for agents. Real people rating things like whether they felt understood, whether the service was consistent, and whether it was simple to deal with.

That's a pretty good checklist for anyone picking an agent, so here's how we do each one.

1. Understanding what you actually need

Before we come out to appraise, we send you a short questionnaire. What matters to you, your timeframe, what's worrying you. So when we turn up, we're already talking about your sale, not a generic one.

2. Consistency (the same two people, start to finish)

This is the big one for us. The team model is spreading through Wellington real estate because it makes the lead agent money. You meet the senior agent at the appraisal, then a junior runs your open homes, and someone else again handles the offers.

We don't work like that. Steve handles every negotiation, every offer and every risk issue, like unconsented decks, leaks or a dodgy LIM. I run the marketing, the photography, the prep and the open homes. No "I'll hand you over to my colleague." Ever.

3. Keeping it simple

Selling a house is stressful enough. You get straight answers, fast. If there's a problem, you hear about it from us early, not three weeks later.

4. Satisfaction (the proof bit)

We've had one withdrawal in four years. And on RateMyAgent we hold the Trusted Agent badge, where 70% is the pass mark and we scored 100%.

5. Personal, not process

Every home gets its own plan. A Karori character villa and a Churton Park family home don't sell the same way, so we don't market them the same way.

The bottom line

An award like this is a nice pat on the back for the Harcourts brand. But when you're selling, service comes down to one question. Who's actually going to pick up the phone when it gets tricky?

With us, it's always one of us.

Thinking about selling in Karori, Johnsonville, Khandallah, Newlands, Ngaio, Churton Park and everywhere in between? Find out what your home's worth →

No fuss, no sales pitch, no juniors, just service.
